Solutions

1. Why do you require my details in order to access the database?
We don't. Anyone can freely browse the full database and perform simple searched. You only need to sign up for a full account if you want to access detailed individual records, add your own comments or see visitor polls.

2. You talk about privacy and secrecy, so why do you require my email details?
I only require an email address in order to send you a confirmation email with your login details. This prevents spammers and advertisers creating loads of dummy accounts and generally messing things up for everyone. Your email address is purely used to verify genuineness of visitors and will not be divulged to any third party, irrespective of reason or motive. Your email address is 100% secure on our server.

3. Can I sign up anonymously?
Yes. All I require is a valid email address with which to validate your account (to prevent spammers and other abusers). I don't require any other personal information and you can use an unnamed Hotmail or GMail account if you like.

4. I've entered the correct username and password, but it won't log me in?
Have you got cookies enabled on your web browser? Our server creates a small cookie with you 'session code' so that once you've logged in, you don't have to keep re-entering your details as you browse around the site. However, if it can't create a cookie, it won't know you've actually logged in.

5. I've entered the correct username and password, but it keeps saying "Sorry. Wrong username or password"
Is it a guest account or a full account? If it's a guest account, when did you last login? Guest accounts expire after 60 days if you don't login at least once in that time. If so, just re-join again, or consider upgrading to a full account.

6. I've just signed up for a new account but I waited 15 minutes and the verification email never arrived.
Do you (or your ISP) have any spam filtering in place? If so, has your message been delivered to a bulk mail or spam folder? Does your email account ask for 'white list' confirmation from people emailing you? If so, for security, our server never responds to server requests to receive email. You should make sure your email account is capable of receiving a response from our server before signing up. Alternatively, you did enter the correct email address didn't you? If all else fails, you can always contact us and we can validate your account manually.

7. I've already got an old account but I can't access the detailed individual entries in the database.
You never could, unless you were a full member. Only full members receive the benefit of being able to access detailed individual entries, polls and comment areas. For more information see our sign up information.
As from 17th July 2007, we no longer have guest accounts as guests can now freely access the database and are no longer restricted to five searches per day.

8. I'm confused over what used to be guest accounts and researcher accounts. I used to have a guest account, but I'm no longer asked for a login.
Until 17th July 2007 we used to have two levels of account; Free guest accounts and paid for 'Researcher' accounts. The guest accounts were required to access the database at all, and perform up to five searches per day, whereas a researcher account was required in order to access detailed individual entries, polls and comment areas.

As of 17th July 2007, we've abolished the free guest account because we've now given anyone full access to what used to be the guest account. You no longer need to login and there is no longer a five search per day restriction. The researcher account retains the same benefits as before, but is now just referred to as a normal account.
